A Tailor-Made - Mid-60s Town & Country - Thornproof Tweed Suit  38-40

By Samuel Butler Ltd of Wakefield

A good example of a genuine Mid-60s Mod-style Town & Country Suit. Representing a bit of a hybrid:

For the fashion-conscious young man: a shorter jacket with v narrow lapels, and with narrow-cut trousers. Yet in a rural-style thornproof and with one or two more traditional touches - like a (v useful) coin/key pocket set into the front pleat of the trousers.

In a desireable Heavier-Smooth Thorn-Proof Tweed in a Dark Olive & Black/Copper Micro-Check

The jacket is lined in an (unmarked) Bronze, and the Trousers are un-lined

The jacket is cut to a clean, 'contemporary'-60s style: 3-buttoned, 2" lapels, slightly fitted, with angled pockets, X1 inner breast. A single 5" vent & 1-buttoned cuffs.

The trousers are single-pleated, slash pockets, single rear pocket, and a stylish touch - an traditional-style coin/ticket/keys pocket.

There's NO waist adjustor NOR any belt loops OR braces buttons. Clearly this was made for one size (a 30"waist).

However, for someone with a smaller waist: with 3" extra material in the hems - therefore creating belt loops could be an easy alteration -

And with someone with a waist over 30":  extending the waist size - with a small insert at the back of the waist  would be another easy alteration  :   )

Measurements:

The mannequin is an athletic 40" Chest & 6ft-1

This is a 38-40 Suit.

And on me, a 41" Chest & 5ft-10, although length is fine - it's always been a little too snug. And would work very well on a 38 to 40 (slim) much better.

Therefore, Please check the measurement carefully - and you decide

An Additional point:

Please try to bear in mind how this compares with what you could might get for the same price in the high street. A suit like this would now cost many £00s to have made, and in any event this grade of tweed is no longer available:

Being of a heavier, shape-keeping, 'harder' weave, in a long-discontinued pattern.

Dry Cleaned and ready to wear

Background

We've acquired a lot of vintage clothing, incl. High Street fashion, and household collectables over the last 20 years. And are now looking to slim things down, as we're intending to move at the end of 2024.

Items were acquired, through some work and expense - mostly from London markets and specialist fairs. And always selected carefully, with thought to condition, quality and whether it represented the best of the era - mostly early to Mid-60s.

Nothing will be offered that is worn out or tired - be it vintage or otherwise

As you may be aware, things of this uniqueness/quality are no longer provided by the the high street - even at the high-end. And the textiles are simply no longer available.

And, as we know the disappointment of receiving things that are not as presented, will be making every effort to describe things fully and honestly. Whilst providing any guidance on sizing we can

Everything being sent clean & ready to wear.
