ITEM DESCRIPTION:

This handsome LP – in a "red stereo" jacket – from Deutsche Grammophon (SLPM 138 659, German pressing, AH tulip label, stereo, original inner sleeve included) features Evgeni Mravinsky and the Leningrad Philharmonic Orchestra's trenchant and shattering account of Tchaikovsky's Symphony No. 6 in B minor Op. 74 'Pathetique', recorded in the rich acoustics of the Grosser Saal of the Musikverien, Vienna on 7-9 November 1960, a truly magnificent performance by any measure.

This towering performance remains among the finest discs in Marvinsky's distinguished recorded legacy. It can withstand the most exalted comparisons, be it with Karajan, Bernstein, Markevitch, Pletnev, et al. The sound is of DG's finest analogue quality – what a magnificent orchestra the Leningrad Philharmonic Orchestra was at this time.

CONDITION:

The gradations of condition I use are as follows: MINT, Near-Mint, Excellent, Very Good, Good, Fair, Poor.

The condition of the jacket is VERY GOOD+. There is a bit of wear at the corners, as well as a slight bend / curling along the open edge of the jacket. However, there are no  seam splits, owners' markings, or other defects and the album remains solid, bright, and attractive – overall, a very good collector's copy.

The condition of the LP itself is near-MINT. Though the surfaces are not absolutely silent, really this is a very fine copy and the playback is superb. If you must have CD-silent surfaces, then please do not buy this LP. Overall, this rates as a lovely NM collector's copy.
