In 'The Incredible Hulk' (2008) scientist Dr. Bruce Banner (Edward Norton) searches for the cure to his life-transforming alter-ego. Scouring the globe in search of the antidote that will prevent him from changing into The Hulk, Banner is forced to keep a low profile, lest the military authorities that seek to exploit his powers finally catch up with him. In an ironic twist, he longs to be with the only woman he has ever loved, Betty Ross (Liv Tyler), who just happens to be the daughter of his chief military adversary, General Thaddeus 'Thunderbolt' Ross (William Hurt). Having finally decided to return to civilisation, Banner discovers that there's an even bigger and more dangerous enemy on the block - The Abomination (Tim Roth). A primal beast even more powerful than The Hulk, this new foe, the result of a foreign agent being exposed to an even larger dose of the radiation that created The Hulk, is unable to revert back to human form. Now the stage is set for the titanic battle of the two heavyweights, with New York the setting for the ultimate showdown.
In 'Next' (2007) a Vegas magician is sought by the government to help prevent a looming disaster. Cris 'Frank Cadillac' Johnson (Nicolas Cage) is a Las Vegas stage magician with the unique ability to foresee the future. This talent he keeps hidden, instead performing the usual, predictable magic material. As a child he was subjected to endless tests and examinations as to the origins of his baffling talent, so much so that he has developed a deep aversion to authority. However, when a terrorist group threatens to let off a huge nuclear device in Los Angeles, FBI agent Callie Ferris (Julianne Moore) ferrets the unlikely seer out, determined that Cadillac's anti-authority streak will not come before the lives of the people of California. She embarks upon a campaign to ensnare him using her womanly wiles, but as two French terrorists also show up at Cris's casino, Callie discovers that they also want to know more about his powers of vision.
Finally, in 'Cowboys & Aliens' (2011), it's the 19th century in the Wild West and loner Jake Lonergan (Daniel Craig) stumbles into the desolate Arizona desert town of Absolution which is presided over with a rule of iron by the megalomaniacal Colonel Dolarhyde (Harrison Ford). With no memory of his past and a mysterious shackle around his wrist, Jake soon learns that he is a wanted man, but his predicament is swiftly overshadowed by an invasion of alien marauders intent on abducting the townspeople. With the help of mysterious traveller Ella (Olivia Wilde), Jake pulls together a posse of his former opponents who, now united against a common enemy, prepare to fight for the survival of humankind.
