H & Co Heinrich Bavaria US Zone Round Covered Vegetable ROMANCE aka STRASBOURG

For consideration is this vintage round covered vegetable made by H & Co., or Heinrich and Company in Selb, Bavaria in Germany, between 1945 and 1949. The pattern name is ROMANCE, pattern #16099. This pattern is multi-floral with the main focus on the pink and yellow lilies and colored with more flowers in blues, purples and green leaves on a white background and accented in gold.

It is my understanding that this pattern was made exclusively for the large John Wanamaker Department Store in Philadelphia. Wanamaker’s sold Heinrich china from 1931 to 1940 and the pattern name at that time was STRASBOURG. My impression is that the pattern was re-named during the time when Bavaria was occupied by the US after the end of World War II from 1945 to 1949 and Wanamaker’s had stopped selling Heinrich china.

This round covered vegetable measures 5½ inches tall with the lid in place, the bowl measures 3 ¼ inches tall, the mouth measures 7¾ inches in diameter, 11 inches across from handle to handleand the base measures 5 inches in diameter. The base is marked in green ink with the crown logo, “H&Co Selb Bavaria Germany Heinrich”, “Romance” and the hand painted number “16099”. It is in excellent vintage condition with no problems noted, a tiny bit of gold loss to the top of the knob on the lid. Buyer will pay shipping on a 4 pound box. Thank you for looking!
