This listing is for a Vintage 1959 Solido Famous Battles #6119 Mercedes 540K Military, Die-cast Metal, 1:43, NIBMercedes-Benz 540K Military Car dimensions are approximately 4 3/4" long x 1 3/4" wide x 1 3/4" highMercedes-Benz 540K Military Car comes with 2 axles and 4 wheelsMercedes-Benz 540K Military Car is die-cast metal, except for plastic tiresThis is a very famous car.  Reichsmarschall Hermann Göring ordered a 540Ks, in his favorite color of "Luftwaffe" blue with his family crest on both doors.  It included armour-plated sides and bulletproof glass.  On May 4, 1945, 101st Airborne Division entered Berchtesgaden, and took possession of car.  Car was repainted army green and Major General Maxwell Taylor used car as his command vehicle in West Germany.  Die-cast vehicle is in Mint Condition, unused in original box, and never displayed or removed from box except for taking photos.  Solido vehicle was made in France.  Box has minor shelf wear as shown in pictures, which is normal for being 64 years, including a slight crack in its cellophane plastic.  Solido military models are built so well that over 30-60 years later this model is as good as when it was built and first sold.  Truly this is quite remarkable!

Mercedes-Benz introduced the 540K in 1936.  540K was one of Mercedes-Benz's most prestigious models. As successor to famed 500K, 540K surpassed previous model in power and prestige.  A series of grand tourers, 540Ks were offered in a variety of open top and hard top variants.  As was common at the time, chassis and drivetrain was sold on its own to be bodied by coachbuilders.  540 K was powered by a supercharged 5.4L straight eight engine which when engaged produced a top output of 180hp. Due to WW2, the 540K chassis ended production in 1940, but already built chassis continued to be bodied and final production ended in 1943.

Mercedes-Benz 540K price tag was so high that only 32 were ever built.  In 1937, Reichsmarschall Hermann Wilhelm Göring ordered a 540Ks, in his favorite color of "Luftwaffe" blue with his family crest on both doors.  It included armour-plated sides and bulletproof glass.  Nicknamed "Blue Goose", Goering was often photographed in the car.  On May 4, 1945, C Company, 326th Engineer Battalion, 101st Airborne Division ("Screaming Eagles") entered Berchtesgaden, and on finding car took possession.  Major General Maxwell Taylor used car as his command vehicle in West Germany until it was commissioned by US Department of the Treasury.  Shipped to Washington, D.C., it successfully toured United States in a victory bond tour.  In 1956, car was auctioned off by US Army and sold to Jacques Tunick of Greenwich, Connecticut, with a high bid of $2167.  In 1958, Tunick sold car to private collection of veterinarian Dr. George Bitgood Jr., who had it repainted in black and chrome re-plated.  After Bitgood's death, "Blue Goose" car was sold to Carnlough International Limited of Guernsey, on agreement that it be restored to its condition "as found" at Berchtesgaden.

Please note that typically, Solido tanks and armored fighting vehicles are made in a 1:50 scale while the support vehicles, which include the jeeps and staff cars, are produced in a slightly larger 1:43 scale.  Also, Solido models are built so well that over 30 years later they are as good as they were when they were built and first sold.  Truly this is quite remarkable!
