We are happy to offer for your consideration a pair of French antique shutter stoppers from the 1800s or earlier and a set of three hand forged spikes. Salvaged from a Castle farm in the French Alps. This is one of the most quintessential French country objects you can possibly own. Every French door and shutter which they use constantly, are held back by one of these door or shutter stays. Many of them are ornate or made of brass, these are as primitive as it comes. Made in the 1800s most likely earlier, these were used a door latch for a barn. Spikes are also found all over France for tying horses to or holding up wooden shelves or you name it. The village blacksmith was busy 200 years ago.

Hand forged with all the irregularities that would be expected, they are a very interesting historic pieces. The spike and was driven into the wall and cemented in with mortar. The swivel and would love to hang down unless the door or shutter was pulled back and then it was used to hold the door or shutter in place. despite can be driven or cemented as deep into the wall as it needs to be. This would be a wonderful addition to a new build or a restoration. If you have any questions please feel free to ask.
