The Sunday Times Magazine July 3, 1977

The contents page keeps moving around, alas, because we try to put it on
a black and white page. The black and white pages are not always in the
same position because they vary as the size of the Magazine varies. We try
to keep the colour pages for lush colour spreads. End of explanation. Wells
Cathedral is the dominant display today, though two-dimensional photo-
graphs can never do justice to such an amazing building. You have to go
and see it to get the full effect - and see-in the flesh the renovations now
being done. Then we have two profiles of two rather different musical men
of note, both of whom have big nights coming up this week in London. Sir
Michael Tippett has a new opera. Billy Connolly has some new rude songs.
