The Altezza was introduced in 1998 as a compact sports sedan combining rear-wheel drive and a longitudinal inline engine. Overseas, it was to be marketed as the IS by Lexus, Toyota's premium brand, and featured luxury equipment and a highly rigid body frame.
The Altezza name was basically used only in Japan from 1998 to 2005, but since the Lexus brand was launched in Japan in 2005, the name disappeared, and from the second generation onward, the car took the name IS, the same as the overseas version.
The Altezza to be released this time is a new mold item and is based solely on the right-hand-drive Japanese version of the Altezza, not the Lexus IS.
