Approximatley 500 different antique Minton tile patterns are pictured in color and identified in this illustrated book which is a reprint of an early Minton catalog.
MINTONS TILES: SELECTED PATTERNS OF ENAMELLED TILES .
This reproduction of an original catalog of Minton tiles is presented by Richard Dennis and Chris Blanchett, Richard Dennis Publications, Somerset, UK, 1996. A former curator of the Minton Museum, Joan Jones, notes: "Minton's diversity of output never ceases to amaze, from decorative wall tiles to encaustic floor tiles, from the classical the naturalistic, Gothic to Japanese style, the tiles are depicted individually and as they would be seen in situ in borders, arrangements, floor layouts and fireplace panels and hearths.
The work of great Victorian designers associated with Minton, A.W. N. Pugin, father of the Gothic Revival, John Moyr Smith, and the radical art botanist Christopher Dresser come to life amongst its pages.... Many examples in this catalogue...were exhibited in the tile courts at the international exhibitions of London and Paris in 1862 and 1867 respectively.
This is a catalogue that will be a constant source of inspiration and information to those who appreciate the beauty of Minton tiles."8.9" x 11.9" softback in very good condition.
