"Jeremy And Hamlet" is the second volume in his Jeremy semi-autobiographical trilogy (Jeremy and Jeremy at Crale being the others). It is about a 10-year-old boy and Hamlet is his dog.

The author, Hugh Walpole (1884-1941) was an English novelist, critic, and essayist. He was born in Auckland, New Zealand, but he spent most of his life in England. Walpole was a prolific writer and achieved considerable popularity during the early 20th century.

Walpole's literary career spanned several genres, including fiction, non-fiction, and children's literature. He is best known for his novels, which often explored themes of social class, family dynamics, and psychological introspection. His works are characterised by their vivid characterisations, atmospheric settings, and rich descriptions.

This book, ‘Jeremy And Hamlet’, was first published in 1923 and was transferred to Macmillan & Co., Ltd., in 1931. This is a Macmillan Pocket Edition and is a 1934 reprint. The pocket editions were created so that your favourite book was small enough to travel with you.

The blue limp leather-bound boards and spine are intact and robust. However, there is some wear to the leather, especially on the spine and corners and there are small rips and wear to the leather at the top and bottom of the spine. There is soft bumping to the corners and light wear on the boards, including light stains and some very light scratches. Please see the photographs which I have provided for further reference. On the front board there is a beautiful gold gilt “H.W.”. There are also ornate gilt decorations and lettering the spine.

The inside of this book is in a good condition. The pages are lightly tanned, which is consistent for a book of this age. On the pastedowns, endpapers, half-title page and last page there is very light foxing. The rest of the pages are in an overall very neat, clean, and mostly uncreased state, with only the very occasional small mark or very light crease. There are no rips to the pages. On the back endpaper there is a very small ink stamp. However, there are no further pen or pencil marks written inside this book. The pages are tightly bound. There are no missing pages, and so all 288 pages are present. Please study the photos carefully as to the condition of this book, as they do form part of the description.

This measures approximately 17.6 cm by 11.4 cm and 1.4 cm wide. It weighs approximately 229 grams.

Thank you so much for looking.
