The sizes of the tintypes are ca. 2,5 x 2,3 cm. -- The album comprises 38 tintype portraits, probably depicting one family. On the inner front cover the name "H.G.Smith" is written in contemporary pencil handwriting. This could refer to the Boston photographer H.G. Smith, which was active in the 1860s-1880s. Probably this album even depicts the family of H.G. Smith. The album begins with a pair of tintypes from a man and a woman (father and mother), followed by some portraits of children, and later further family members and further children. Some persons are presented in several different portraits. -- Some tintypes were removed or lost, the binding is some rubbed, the clasp is lacking. - A rare American Civil War era photo album with tintypes (most probably) from Boston.
