Description: This beautiful German beer stein was produced by Villeroy and Boch in Mettlach well over 100 years ago. The stein's theme is bowling or Kegel in German - a very popular sport in old time Germany.
The exceptionally crafted ceramics art object consists of tan clay body with applied blue background and applied white relief figures - a very complex and labor-intensive technique. It shows common scenes of bowling - one of the characters is throwing a ball, another one is keeping score, some are sitting at the table waiting for their turn and drinking and smoking, another one is filling his stein with a good brew from a barrel.
The stein is fully marked at the bottom with Mettlach Mercury mark and mold number 2182. There is a control mark 2 and date mark 07 indicating the stein was made in 1907. Fantastic inlaid lid with relief picture of traditional long German tobacco pipe and a bunch of radishes - the popular beer snack. The thumblift is made in form of a bowling pin. Very nice and beautiful antique beer drinking vessel with bowling theme!
The stein is in excellent condition - no chips, breaks or repairs, clean interior.
It is 8" tall to the top of the thumblift, 0.5L capacity.
