Authentic Bolivian festival jacket, also known as a milkmaids jacket, made by hand around the late 19th to early 20th century.

The jacket is composed of a medium-weight velvet, in a dark blue green color, kind of a turquoise/emerald hue. The jacket is lined in a plain woven cotton, similar to calico or muslin. The jacket features pleated, bloused sleeves; a flared waist with godets; and two little side pockets with flaps. The hem is trimmed with an oyster/pearl colored fringe, made of a silky fiber~ possibly silk, but it might be vicuña or baby alpaca.

The shape & silhouette of this jacket is perfectly highlighted by the hand embroidery, soutache designs and glass beadwork. The jacket appears to be machine sewn, as well as hand beaded and hand sewn in other areas.

In good antique condition for its age. Please note there are a few beads missing, mostly from the front panel ((see closeups)), some small areas of discoloration, some wear to the velvet, some pulls to the fringes, and some spots and discoloration on the inside lining. The hook & eye closures are both present on one wrist cuff, but the hook is missing from the other cuff. All major seams are intact. Despite its antiquity, the jacket has a sturdy feeling of construction~ It could be gently worn for a special moment or two, when not being displayed and admired.
