Background:
LATAM Airlines, formerly LAN Airlines, LAN-Chile and LATAM Chile, is a Chilean
multinational airline based in Santiago, Chile and one of the founders of LATAM
Airlines Group, the largest airline holding company in Latin America. The main
hub is Arturo Merino Benítez International Airport in Santiago, with secondary
hubs in São Paulo, Lima, Bogotá, Quito, Guayaquil and Asunción airports.
LAN was the flag carrier of Chile until its privatization in the 1990s; it is
the predominant airline in Chile, Ecuador and Peru, and the second-largest
carrier in Colombia, through its local subsidiaries. LAN is the largest airline
in Latin America, serving Latin America, Northern America, the Caribbean,
Oceania, Asia, and Europe. The carrier was a member of the Oneworld airline
alliance from 2000 to 2020.
LATAM Airlines Group was formed after the takeover by LAN and Brazilian TAM
Linhas Aéreas, which was completed on June 22, 2012. In August 2015, it was
announced that the two airlines would fully rebrand as LATAM, with one livery
to be applied on all aircraft by 2018. Currently, LATAM Chile and LATAM Brasil
continue to work as separate companies, under LATAM Airlines Group acting as
the executive management. LATAM Airlines Group is currently the largest airline
corporation in Latin America.
LATAM Cargo Chile (formerly LAN Cargo S.A.) is a cargo airline based in
Santiago, Chile and the freight subsidiary of the LATAM Airlines Group. It is
operating cargo flights within South America, to Europe and North America from
its hubs at Miami International Airport and Arturo Merino Benítez International
Airport.
It is a sister company of LATAM Cargo Brasil and LATAM Cargo Colombia.
The 767-300F, the production freighter version of the 767-300ER, entered
service with UPS Airlines in 1995. The 767-300F can hold up to 24 standard
88-by-125-inch (220 by 320 cm) pallets on its main deck and up to 30 LD2 unit
load devices on the lower deck, with a total cargo volume of 15,469 cubic feet
(438 m3). The freighter has a main deck cargo door and crew exit, while the
lower deck features two starboard-side cargo doors and one port-side cargo
door. A general market version with onboard freight-handling systems,
refrigeration capability, and crew facilities was delivered to Asiana Airlines
on August 23, 1996. As of August 2019, 767-300F deliveries stand at 161 with 61
unfilled orders. Airlines operated 222 examples of the freighter variant and
freighter conversions in July 2018.
