Tiger I was a German heavy tank of World War II.  Tiger I was used first beginning in July 1943 in Battle of Sicily and Battle of Kursk in Soviet Union, usually in independent heavy tank battalions.  It gave German Army its first armored fighting vehicle that mounted 88 mm cannon (derived from the 88 mm Flak Gun) that could destroy any American, British or Soviet tank.  Only 1,347 were built between August 1942 and August 1944.  In the early period, Tiger was prone to certain types of track failures and breakdowns.  It was expensive to maintain, but generally mechanically reliable.  It was difficult to transport and vulnerable to immobilization when mud, ice, and snow froze between its overlapping and interleaved pattern road wheels, often jamming them solid.  This was a problem on Eastern Front in muddy season and during periods of extreme cold.  Nonetheless, Allied tankers feared Tiger 1 because of its powerful cannon and 4” of frontal armor.

Solido tanks are aptly named, as they are truly “solid” with very heavy die-cast metal bodies.  They are quite detailed and the quality is fabulous!  Please note that typically, Solido tanks and armored fighting vehicles are made in a 1:50 scale while the support vehicles, which include the jeeps and staff cars, are produced in a slightly larger 1:43 scale.  Also, Solido military and fire fighting models are built so well that over 55 years later they are as good as they were when they were built and first sold.  Truly this is quite remarkable!  Solido die-cast models require no gluing or painting.  Each model is an instant display piece or diorama centerpiece straight from box.  Made from die-cast metal, die-cast military vehicles from Solido are 100% true to scale!  Solido military tanks have following features.

·  Heavy die-cast metal construction that has with some plastic components (e.g., antennas).

·  Rotating turret, elevating cannon, & accurate hull in die-cast metal.

·  Accurate moving metal tracks on detailed rotating wheels.

·  Realistic panel lines, access panels, and surface details located at hull.

·  Pad printed markings and placards that will not fade or peel like decals
