~*~ Hello and welcome to the Textile Trunk! Please follow us on Instagram, we are @textiletrunk ~*~

A RARE BEAUTY is a wonderful, 18th century Indigo resist quilt dating from c1780 ~ This stunning textile is the largest 18th century quilt I've ever seen~*~ The reverse fabric is also one of the most beautiful I've ever seen! ~*~ is a resist dyed and hand block printed cotton~ remarkably beautiful. The saturation on this indigo is outrageously wonderful . The only flaw to even report is that someone was in the process of removing the backing ( for it's STUNNING beauty ) and so the two pieces are separated in large areas. I would simply have someone hand stitched them back together. WELL worth the investment! The other possibility is to continue to remove the backing and have the quilt re-backed in an antique plain linen. The backing cotton is massive and GORGEOUS. The cotton backing was also resist printed and hand block printed. This indigo resist pattern ( the front) is a stunning, nubby linen. This quilt is one in a million!!~ ~*~

MEASUREMENTS : ~ this textile measures approximately 102 inches by 97 inches ~

CONDITION ~ This quilt is in original, as found condition. This quilt has been hand washed in the recent past. The backing has been removed from the front in many places ( please see photographs and above in the description). Someone began the process of unpicking this quilt, which you can continue or have it resewn! Each side has some small flaws to be expected for it's age 230 years old!! Some little holes, and the red side has some hand stitched mends etc. ~*~ Rare and wonderful indeed. ( the condition of the backing having been partially removed from the quilt is taken into account in the price)
