This beautiful ancient madder tie was handmade in Naples, Italy, by one of our skilled craftsmen.

Ancient madder silk is produced by soaking a silk twill fabric in the madder dye, which begins to break down the silk, and fils it with a vibrant color. The coloration of the finished silk has a certain depth not seen in any other dying method.

As the silk is slightly broken down, it creates its signature soft chalky feel, which is only found in this variant.

Only a couple mills still produce ancient madder silk in Macclesfield, England, with only one to my knowledge still dying it traditionally by hand.

This makes the silk incredibly rare nowadays, as it is very time consuming to make and uses the highest quality silk yarns and dyes.

The pattern of this tie was screen printed by hand, which creates a much deeper print compared to modern digital printing.
