"JUST" (PARIS) GILDED & NICKEL PLATED BRONZE DESK ALARM CLOCK

This prestigious showpiece of post WWII European horology is from my personal collection of vintage and antique clocks curated since the early 1970s.  Time has come for the stunning Louis XVI inspired gilt-bronze timepiece to reach an appreciative new home.  

I've not encountered a comparable quality alarm clock in a career spanning fifty years; first in clock restoration and sales, followed by 42 years as a professional appraiser of antiques, decorative and fine art.  No expense was spared in manufacture.  Every millimeter of the case is finished to fine jewelry standards. 

Charles Hour introduced the "Just" line of clocks in the 1920s, coinciding with emergence of innovative Parisian Art Deco furnishings, fine and decorative arts.  By the early 1950s, French manufacturing and the economy had largely recovered from the devastating aftermath of WWII.  Merging with Maurice Lavigne as Hour Lavigne, the firm produced the most exclusive and costly French clocks.  Their gilt-bronze models featured unique designs often embellished with hand engraving.  

The rear edge of the case is inscribed with the venerable merchant's name.  Manufacturing jewelers and gemologists Golay Fils & Stahl was founded in 1837.  The highly regarded Geneva based firm continues business today.  Please visit their website for company history.  

The unmarked top-of-the-line 15-jewel lever escapement movement is unquestionably an Angelus product.  Among several distinguishing features of Angelus alarm clocks - "color coded" hinged keys and set knobs.  Gold for the time train.  Black for alarm winding and setting. 

    

The clock has been maintained in superb original condition.  It displays handsomely on a shelf, desk, side table or nightstand.
