Illustrated throughout the text by the author in colour. With eighty one illustrations. Collated, complete.

Printed by Edmund Evans who considered it his finest work. Beautiful crisp colour printing at its best. 

John Doyle was an Irish cartoonist and caricaturist, painter and lithographer of the nineteenth century. 

Prior owner's book plates of Peter Summers to the first pastedown and first free endpaper. Prior owner's ink inscription from 1889 to the first free endpaper.


CONDITION

In full morocco binding. Externally, smart. There is some wear to the head and tail of the spine and to the extremities. s. Prior owner's book plates to the first pastedown and first free endpaper. Prior owner's ink inscription from 1889 to the first free endpaper. Internally, firmly bound. The pages are bright and clean with the occasional spot, particularly to the endpapers.
