With half titles; errata slip to each volume; frontispiece and folding facsimile plate of Sir Walter Scott's handwriting to vol. I. With advertising leaves to front or rear of each volume. Collated, complete.
Biography of prominent Scottish poet and author Sir Walter Scott, known for his European and Scottish classic literary works including Ivanhoe, Waverley, and the narrative poem Marmion among others.
Written by John Gibson Lockhart, Scottish writer and editor. This celebrated biography of his father-in-law was deemed the second most admirable biography in the English language after Boswell's Life of Johnson.
CONDITION
In the original publisher's uniform full cloth bindings with titles on paper spine labels, each held in fine half calf book-shaped boxes. Externally sound with some shelf wear, bumped to head and tail of spine and extremities, back strip lightly faded to most volumes. With Oliver Brett's armorial bookplate to front pastedowns. Internally, binding generally firm. Pages generally very clean throughout. Occasional leaf unopened to top edge.
