Peter Hately Waddell (1817-1891) was a Scottish cleric who wrote widely on aspects of Scottish culture and ancient Celtic history. In this volume, Waddell gives a biography of renowned poet Robert Burns, and collates his poetry and songs from various editions, with critical and historical notes. Poems are reprinted from first editions of his poetical works, from Johnson's Scots Musical Museum, and from Thomson's collection, among other sources. It also includes Burns's posthumous poetical works, some being miscellaneous and minor pieces, prose works (mainly correspondence), and poems and songs that have been doubtfully ascribed to Burns. To the rear is an appendix.
