DESCRIPTION

New edition, complete in three volumes. In uniform half calf bindings.

Containing the correspondence of English poet and Anglican hymnwriter William Cowper with his many friends from 1763 to 1798. Many letters were intimate and exchanged with his cousin and close friend Lady Hesketh, as well as with Mrs Cowper, Joseph Hill, and others.

Illustrated with frontispiece to vol. I. Bound without half titles. 


CONDITION

Rebound in uniform half calf bindings over marbled boards, renewed endpapers. Externally with shelf wear, rubbed to spine and extremities. Previous ownership pencil inscription to front free endpaper. Closed tear to p. ix-x vol. II. Staining mark to title page affecting first few leaves vol. III. Internally, firmly bound. Light spotting to first and last few leaves, pages otherwise generally bright and clean. Occasional marginal annotation in pencil not affecting text.
