DESCRIPTION

The first edition of this work. Complete in two volumes. Inscribed by the author to half title vol. I 'To Ethel Fraser, on her marriage, with heartiest good wishes for her happiness from her Cousin, W Fraser Rae,' dated December 1902. 

Illustrated with frontispiece and eight further plates to volume I; and frontispiece and twelve plates to vol. II. Collated, complete. 

In Eyre & Spottiswoode signed half morocco bindings. With half titles. 

Complete biography of Richard Brinsley Butler Sheridan Irish satirist, politician, playwright, poet, known as long-term owner of the London Theatre Royal, Drury Lane. Some of his most popular plays include 'The Rivals' and 'The School for Scandal.'

William Fraser Rae was a Scottish journalist and author.


CONDITION

In uniform half morocco bindings over cloth covered boards, five raised bands, gilt titles to spine, marbled edges and endpapers. Externally very smart with shelf wear, rubbed to back strip and extremities of boards. Ex libris stamp to front blank leaf. Internally, firmly bound. Light spotting to odd leaf, particularly tissue guard to frontispiece vol. I; pages otherwise generally bright and clean.
