DESCRIPTION

The very scarce first edition of this historical study.

Illustrated with an engraved title page and six engraved plates by James Peterkin. Collated, complete.

With the publisher's original front wrap bound in, and an errata slip tipped in to the rear.

With a bookplate to the front pastedown.

Author Charles Mackie provides a charming account of the history of Linlithgow Palace, which was one of the principal residences of the monarchs of Scotland in the fifteenth and sixteenth centuries. The palace eventually burned down in 1746.


CONDITION

Rebound in a quarter calf binding with paper covered boards. Handwritten label to back strip. Bumping to back strip head and tail, and board perimeters. Hinges strained, but firmly held. Bookplate to front pastedown. Original front wrap bound in. Internally, firmly bound. Pages lightly age toned, with significant spotting to plates, and tide marks to plate tails.
