DESCRIPTION

The first edition of this very scarce work.

Illustrated with a folding frontispiece.

The work of Gloucestershire topographer, printer and antiquarian Samuel Rudder, who ran a printing and bookselling business in Cirencester, and published several works on the history of Gloucester.

With a lengthy, separately paginated index to the rear.

With a former owner's inscription to the front pastedown.

Rudder discusses the civil and military history of Gloucester from the 'earliest period to the present time', while providing an account of the history of Gloucester Cathedral, St. Peter's Abbey, and the bishoprics and dignitaries of the region.


CONDITION

In a half morocco binding, with marbled paper covered boards. Front joint starting and firmly held, rear joint starting and tenderly held by two cords only at the head. Inscription to front pastedown. Internally, firmly bound. Offsetting to title page, with significant spotting to final few leaves, and pages generally clean and bright.
