DESCRIPTION

The third edition of this work, which was first published in England in 1875.

Jules Verne's 'The Mysterious Island' was published in England in three volumes, entitled 'Dropped from the Clouds', 'The Abandoned', and 'The Secret of the Island'. This is the third edition of the final volume.

Verne's novel follows a group of Union soldiers - and two Confederates - as they escape America using a hot-air balloon, and end up on a strange island in the Pacific.

Illustrated with forty-nine plates, and a frontispiece. Collated, complete.

Translated from the original French by W.H.G. Kingston.

With three pages of advertisements to the rear, and further advertisements to rear free endpaper and pastedown.

A lovely example of this early edition of Verne's fantastical adventure novel.
