This new adjustable bed base is for use on standard size 4 ft 6″ double beds, as well as odd sized beds, in either metal or wood.

It is suitable for most vintage and antique French beds between 3 ft 9″ and 5 ft wide.

It is suitable for many English Victorian iron and brass beds, and other English antique beds, but contact us if you are unsure.

Details:

The length is fixed at 6 ft 3″, the width is variable and we use this base with the following size beds:
3 ft 9″ x 6 ft 3″ – Large Single

4 ft x 6 ft 3″ – Small Double
4 ft 6″ x 6 ft 3″ – Standard Double
5 ft x 6 ft 3″- King size width, but the length is 6 ft 3″, not 6 ft 7″ like a standard UK king size.
The base can be used with some 6 ft 7″ long king size beds, depending on their structure. Please check with us.
It is self supporting in the centre so needs no central support.
It is ideal for narrow staircases when other bed bases are too wide.
It can be used in caravan design or bespoke sleeping areas.
The base slides / extends to the size you need, it is not notched, therefore:
~ it usually needs securing to metal beds where it lies on top of the bed frame. 
[ We supply cable ties to do this, which work well, with ease and can be hidden.]
~ it usually does not need securing on wooden beds, where it sits within the frame of the bed.
With a variable width you can always re-use this base with larger or smaller bed frames as your needs change

Specifications
This base has a dark blue metal frame with 27 lightly sprung beech slats.
The slats fit into strong black plastic brackets on the metal frame.
It comes with 8 end caps which can be moved to the ends on show.
The base weighs approximately 20kg and is shipped in its smallest form approximately 85 x 188 cm.

Fitting the base to a French Demi Corbeille bed
The photos below show the adjustable slatted bed base on an upholstered French Demi Corbeille double bed measuring 140 cm wide by 190 cm in length.

These beds have a rounded footboard – so the measurements are not exactly square.

The adjustable bed base allows you to pull the base out and lay it flat onto the wooden cross bar fitted to the headboard end of the bed and there is usually a fixed cross bar at the footboard end of the bed.

Because the bed is not quite square, the metal frame of the slatted bed base does not butt right up to the wooden sides of the bed.

On our bed for example it lays aprox. 3.5 cm in from the sides at the bottom of the bed and aprox. 2 cm in from the sides at the headboard end. However, it will still function perfectly well as a base for your mattress.


Most upholstered / Corbeille beds have the wooden cross bars described above.
We add a central support to the cross bars to help strengthen the structure by taking the weight of base, mattress and ultimately you.
If your bed does not have cross bars, then you need to replace them and we recommend you add the central support which is a simple task. 
If you feel that two cross bars alone, as shown here, are not sufficient support for your slats, then you can always add a third in the centre or a wooden ledge, normally the two cross bars work well on their own.
To widen the base, just pull the slats apart and lay them down on your supports.
The base does not move nor does it need to be fixed in place when used within the side pieces of the bed.
If your bed is of a slightly different construction then the slats may still fit, if you are in doubt we will provide some advice.

The height varies depending on how it sits on your bed. On the Corbeille bed in this listing where the base sits on the wooden cross bars, height is 5cm - when this base sits on a metal bed, resting on all 4 corners of the bed the height of the base is slightly higher at 7.5cm.

Delivery to most parts of the UK is £30 for a courier weekday delivery.
Please include your phone number with your order to avoid any delays in shipping.
We will notify you when your order has been shipped and provide a tracking number.
Timed and weekend deliveries incur a surcharge and must be requested before purchase.
Delivery days cannot be guaranteed, even timed deliveries are not guaranteed by the couriers, but their success rates are usually over 95%.
The couriers will leave a card if you are out and delivery can be re-arranged with them directly.
The couriers NEVER call in advance, even if you ask us, we cannot make them, it is not a service that is offered.
If you are local to us (Stansted, Essex) we may be able to deliver, check with us.

We accept returns within 14 days and will refund your total payment, but you are are responsible for organising and sending the product back to us in 'new' condition and this cost is non-refundable.
