Golden Gate Brand.  This rare vintage 1942 orange crate label shows elaborate open entry gates leading into an estate orange grove with neat rows of trees laden with ripe fruit.  Beyond are buildings, other trees, and pink mountains.  The gates are fixed to stone columns and surrounded by colorful trees.  The sky is blue and green.

I see this creatively colorful scene as a depiction of an orange orchard the way Hollywood might present one in a major release; the fancy gates suggest the entrance to an important movie studio, the rows of orange trees appear manicured to perfection, and the mountains have a dreamlike hue!

For more than half a century, Charles M. Brown (1864–1944) was the staunch chief of the Gold Banner Association - Redland, CA’s biggest independent orange marketing institution.  He arrived there in the autumn of 1886 – two years before the city’s incorporation – as manager for a fruit firm.

This label is vintage - not a copy and is in attractive condition with two tiny staple holes near the upper left corner.

The image shown in this eBay listing is a high-quality accurate-color scan of the actual label that is for sale.
