Chris Slade (b 30 Oct 1946) is a Welsh musician, best known as a drummer in the Australian hard rock band AC/DC from '89-'94. He was asked to join AC/DC in ’89 after drummer Simon Wright left. Slade played on The Razors Edge album ('90) & in its accompanying world tour & on the '93 single Big Gun. According to Slade, after working on demos for subsequent album Ballbreaker, Malcolm Young told him they wanted to try a reunion with former drummer Phil Rudd. Slade replied, "That's me out then, I'm gone." Young said he wanted Slade on hand if Rudd's return didn't work out, but Slade refused. However, he's stated he still got on well with AC/DC & "it was an honour & a privilege to play with those guys". After departing, Slade spent a few years living in the UK, before joining the British progressive rock band Asia from 2000-2005. He fronted an AC/DC tribute band “Chris Slade Steel Circle” & also toured with “The Chris Slade Timeline” (a band formed to celebrate 50 years as a rock drummer). Speculation regarding Slade's return to AC/DC started shortly after Phil Rudd's public legal troubles. He finally admitted he was returning & that the secrecy about it was "done for the right reasons". AC/DC issued the statement: "Chris Slade will be on drums for the upcoming Rock or Bust world tour." Since then, in addition to playing live, Slade has appeared in all promo photos with the band & appeared in the music video for Rock the Blues Away. In 2015 AC/DC's official website listed him as the band's drummer. In 2020, the band announced that Phil Rudd was returning on drums, effectively making Slade leave the band for a 2nd time. In the same announcement, it stated Brian Johnson & Cliff Williams were also returning to the band. AC/DC have sold over 200 million records worldwide, making them 1 of the best-selling bands in history.
