Aus "Les Indes Orientales et Occidentales et autres lieux" (ca. 1700). -- gut erhalten. || Romeyn de Hooghe (1645 1708) was a prolific and quite versatile Dutch late Baroque artist. He was active as painter, sculptor, engraver, draughtsman and caricaturist. He is probably best known for his political caricatures of Louis XIV and propagandistic prints in support of the Prince of Orange. In 1668 he travelled to Paris, where he came into contact with French art, the influence of which can be seen throughout his work. He was made noble in 1675 by the Polish king John III Sobieski for his graphic depictios of the battles of Chotyn and Terebowlja. In 1687 he inherited the house of his uncle Pieter de Hooch and lived in Haarlem until his death. In the course of his career as engraver, Romeyn de Hooge produced over 3500 prints. || Dies ist ein Original! - Kein Nachdruck! - Keine Kopie! -- This is an original! - No copy! - No reprint!
