Scorpions are a German heavy metal band formed in '71. The lineup from '79-'92 was their most successful incarnation with Klaus Meine (vocals), Rudolf Schenker (rhythm guitar), Matthias Jabs (lead guitar), Francis Buchholz (bass) & Herman Rarebell (drums). Bassist Paweł Mąciwoda & drummer Mikkey Dee joined in 2003 & 2016 respectively. In the mid ’70s, their music was defined as hard rock, then changed towards hard rock/heavy metal mixed with rock power ballads. In the ‘80s they received critical acclaim & commercial success with albums Animal Magnetism ('80), Blackout ('82), Love at First Sting ('84) & Savage Amusement ('88). Crazy World ('90) album single Wind of Change (a symbolic anthem of the political changes in Eastern Europe & the fall of the Berlin Wall) sold over 14 million copies! Rolling Stone Magazine described them as "the heroes of heavy metal" & MTV called them "Ambassadors of Rock". They have 3 World Music Awards, a star on the Hollywood Rock wall & a presence in the permanent exhibition of the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame. In 2020 the band celebrated its 55th anniversary. Scorpions are 1 of the best-selling bands in history, having sold over 110 million records!
