About Artist :

Juran, whose birth and death dates are unknown, was born in Jiangning (Nanjing, Jiangsu). Painter and monk of the Five Dynasties.

In his early years, he became a monk at Kaiyuan Temple in Nanjing. After the Southern Tang Dynasty surrendered to Song Dynasty, he went to Bianjing (Kaifeng, Henan) and resided at Kaibao Temple.

Proficient in painting mountains and rivers, following the example of Dong Yuan, specializing in painting Jiangnan mountains and rivers. The peaks and peaks are often painted with alum heads, and the foothills of the forest are filled with pebbles and covered with sparse vines and grass. The narrow paths, dangerous bridges, and thatched houses are placed, creating a wild and peaceful atmosphere, which is deeply loved by literati. Painting mountains and stones with long linen and delicate brushstrokes is the legitimate inheritance of Dong Yuan's painting style, and is also known as Dong Ju. It has had a great impact on the development of landscape painting in the Yuan, Ming, Qing, and even modern times.
