Since its launch in 1982, the studio monitor O 98 has secured a permanent place in countless radio and television studios, in private recording studios and also at home users. It has proven itself to be an incorruptible "tool" for all sound engineers and is recognised worldwide as a listening standard. With well over 12,000 units sold in 16 years, the O 98 is one of the most successful listening monitors in the KLEIN+HUMMEL studio program.Listening tests confirm that the electroacoustic properties are largely similar to those of the tried and tested O92 monitor loudspeaker (the former reference loudspeaker from ARD and ZDF) despite the significantly lower volume of just 17.5 litres. As a result, the O 98 was able to secure a regular place in OB vans and other smaller listening rooms in Germany and abroad in a short time.A cone speaker with a diameter of 210 mm was used for the low frequencies channel. 38 mm and 19 mm systems were used in the mid and high range. The mid / high range system is supported by a common mounting plate, which can be rotated 180° in a few minutes to achieve a larger stereo base.The O 98 is an active 3-way loudspeaker with an electronic crossover and an integrated 3-channel amplifier, which can deliver 100 watts in the bass channel and 50 watts in the mid-range and high-frequency channel. Electronic protective circuits in the mid and high frequency channels protect voice coils thermal overload. In combination with the high power reserve of the amplifiers, the maximum possible controllability of the signals with high peak factors is ensured. The 3-stage local equalizer allows the frequency response to be adapted to the installation location. The Klein & Hummel O 98 is a monitoring loudspeaker that enables the sound quality of the program material to be assessed almost as well as it was with the much larger, O92, even in small spaces, such as broadcast vans, theatre control rooms, small recording studios.
