Banff borders the southern end of Jasper National Park before stretching south covering a total of 2, 564 square miles. Not only does the map feature stunning major alpine lakes, but it showcases one of the best parks for hiking with a total of 994 miles of trails. Outdoor enthusiasts find joy in visiting major mountains such as: Mount Rundle, Mount Assiniboine, Cascade Mountain, Castle Mountain, Mount Temple. The park also includes  the impressive Fairmont Banff Springs Hotel, Fairmont Chateau Lake Louise, as well as more rustic structures such as the Shoki Lodge and the Twin Falls Tea House. 

While visitors enjoy recreating at the park’s outstanding lakes and mountain areas, Banff offers a unique experience in visiting the icefields in the northern end of the park. The scenic highway Icefields Parkway starts at Lake Louise in the center of the Park and continues north until it approaches and crosses the Columbia Icefield in Jasper National Park. Other major icefields and glaciers found within the map in Banff and surrounding National Parks include: Hanbury Glacier, Wapta Icefield, Bow Glacier, Freshfield Icefield, Campbell Icefield, Mon Icefield, Lyell Icefield, Wilson Icefield, Saskatchewan Glacier, Athabasca Glacier and Dome Glacier of the Columbia Icefield. 

The subarctic climate of the region is home to some of the most fascinating wildlife on the North American continent including: elk, mountain lions, Bald Eagles, lynx, gray wolves, Bighorn Sheep, black bears, Grizzly bears, moose, Great Horned owls, beavers and more.
