Antique French Napoleon lll Ormolu and Crystal Paper Knife c1870

A rare luxury French item made of hand cut crystal and a handle encased in ornate gilt metal.

A very similar item was sold on antiques website 1st Dibs for over £500.00. Described as a page turner and bookmark.

 Paper knives were used to open pages of books that when hand produced and often contained pages that had not been cut.

This beautiful piece measures approximately 22.5cm in length, 2.7cm wide and about 1cm deep (at the base of handle.
