A small cello, only 78.5 cm long, which the player hangs on a strap around his neck.
The five strings of the viola pomposa (as the cello da spalla is also called) are tuned in fifth intervals and produce a particularly soft, warm, slender, but still cello-typical tone.
It is attached to the strap on the chest and, as it were, thrown onto the right shoulder, so it has nothing to stop or prevent its resonance in the slightest.
