Wall basket decor is increasingly becoming a popular home decor trend. Over the centuries the BaTonga tribe women have perfected their techniques of weaving wall baskets and used them to store or winnow dried grains and nuts. They now produce a complete range of winnowing baskets for wall basket decor that offer great strength and design. 




These beautiful handwoven Binga baskets are made Tonga women in Zimbabwe and originally have been used for winnowing grain. The baskets are made from all natural and locally harvested materials, such as wild grasses, small vines and palm leaves of the Ilala palm that are dyed with tree bark. 


Making such a collection of baskets is quite a labor-intensive process. Some weavers take up to 2 weeks working on one basket depending on size and the desired pattern. The Binga baskets are truly unique both in their colors and designs as each lady expresses herself in each piece. Winnowing basket sets or Binga baskets for wall basket decor are crafted using locally and naturally growing wild grasses. The largest Binga basket is about 50cm in diameter and the smallest is about 25cm in diameter.
