The Dalton Highway is a 414 mile stretch of mostly gravel road that traverses the north of Alaska from Livengood to Prudhoe Bay. Built in 1974 as the service road for the Trans-Alaska Pipeline, this highway is notable for some of the most dramatic scenery in North America, crossing tundra and forest, the Yukon River and the Brooks Range, it passes over the North Slope and ends at Prudhoe Bay.
