For your consideration is this vintage souvenir plate for Fort Benning, Georgia. Similar plates online bear the W. S. George marking, this one does not. It is possible it was produced by Royal China Company when they purchased WSG in 1955. The plate is transferware. There is an image of a group of minutement in uniform and reads "EXCELLENCE IN COMPETITION / FORT BENNING, GEORGIA" underneath. To the side reads "Historical American Uniforms / ASSOCIATION OF THE CITY & LIBERTIES OF / PHILADELPHIA, 1775 / FORMED AS COMPANIES OF VOLUNTEER / MILITIA AT A MEETING IN THE CITY, 21 NO- / VEMBER 1747 BY BENJAMIN FRANKLIN AND / OTHERS. THE PHILADELPHIA GREENS WAS / COMMANDED BY CAPTAIN JOHN CADWALAD- / ER AND THE QUAKER BLUES ANOTHER OF THE / ASSOCIATOR COMPANIES WAS COMMANDED / BY CAPTAIN JOSEPH COWPERTHWAIT, THE / SHERIFF IN 1775. IN THE LATTER PART OF 1775 / THERE WERE FOUR FOUR INFANTRY BATTAL- / IONS, ONE RIFLE BATTALION, AND ARTILLERY / BATTALION, AND THE CITY GUARDS. / Reproduced from the original plates of / The Company of Military Collectors & Historians / Washington, D. C.". The plate measures 10 inches in diameter. There are no chips, cracks or crazing present. The back has the three little dots that most plates have caused from placing / removing them from the kilns during the manufacturing process. Lovely Collector's Plate!
