Details

Inspired by the Bauhaus work of Josef Albers and Wassily Kandinsky, with its lively contrast of bright colors and geometric shapes, the Bauhaus Boss Bespoke bag by Hugo Boss is made with a modernist inlay of leathers in precious shades of vermilion, light blue and sulfur yellow , set on a neutral organic background or on a stark monochrome tuxedo. Integrating ornament and structure, the design of the new Bauhaus BOSS Bespoke bag renders the motif on the surface of the bag itself: the rectilinear shape of the accessory acts as a canvas but is also a graphic display, its surface animated by a precise interlocking of suede shapes, leather and lizard and crocodile in relief.

In its capacity as global sponsor, HUGO BOSS is supporting the ‘Das Bauhaus #allesistdesign’ exhibition at the Vitra Design Museum in Weil am Rhein, Germany. The musem will be presenting an array of previously unseen exhibits from its own collection along with significant pieces from private collections and exhibition houses worldwide. Over and beyond this, the project documents the Bauhaus movement’s development and the societal models which it advocated, while revealing their surprising up-to-dateness.

"No other cultural institution is integrated so closely with the HUGO BOSS identity than Bauhaus. As a symbol of clarity, stringency and precision, it also plays a pivotal and inspiring role for our collections," explained Dr. Hjördis Kettenbach, Head of Cultural Affairs at HUGO BOSS. As such the exhibition plays a special role in the Group’s scant two decades of Arts Sponsorship.

‘Das Bauhaus #allesistdesign’ examines the legendary institution in light of current trends while creating the first-ever overview of the Bauhaus’ philosophy of design. The show includes works by designers and artists such as Marianne Brandt, Marcel Breuer, Lyonel Feininger, Walter Gropius, and Wassily Kandinsky. Current contributions are from Olaf Nicolai, Adrian Sauer, Enzo Mari, Norman Foster, Open Desk, Konstantin Grcic, Hella Jongerius, Alberto Meda, Olaf Nicolai and Jerszy Seymour. Selected pieces from the BOSS Womenswear Collection form part of the exhibition as well. These illustrate the importance of Bauhaus as a source of inspiration for Jason Wu, Artistic Director BOSS Womenswear.
