Micky is now the familys fighter, with his fledgling career going nowhere under the management of his mother Alice (Melissa Leo). When Mickys latest mismatched fight nearly kills him, he is persuaded by iron-willed new girlfriend, Charlene (Amy Adams- Academy Award Best Actress nominee 2005 Junebug, Best Supporting Actress 2008 Doubt), to do the unthinkable: split with the family, pursue his own interests and train without his troubled brother. Then Micky gets the shot of a lifetime at a title fight, and it soon becomes clear that it will take not only Charlene and his new trainer but also his brother and the whole family to get him there.
