Mid-Century Modern Danish Style Light Oak and String, Cord, or Rope Magazine Rack, Unknown Designer/ Manufacturer, American or Scandinavian, Circa 1950's

This exceptional magazine rack is beautifully and sparingly designed. It is undoubtedly designed by an important designer and likely made by a skilled professional furniture maker. The wooden components are solid oak with the ends, the divider, and the bottom in oak plywood. The wooden surfaces are finished with a white-tinted "pickled" varnish. The zigzag stringing is a black woven cordage that is tight and in good undamaged condition. The slightly splayed legs and the platform holding them are solid wood, as are the two retainer bars which hold the upper ends of the cordage. The condition of the structure and wooden parts are very solid with no damage or repairs. The finish is generally intact except for some minor losses of the varnish on the outside of the top surface of the base where the vertical ends are mortised into that base (see photos). This piece has a very pleasing design.

Condition:  Good. The structure and wooden parts are solid with no breaks or repairs. The white-tinted "pickled" varnish finish is all very good except minor losses to the varnish on the outer upper surface where the ends are mortised into the base platform (see photos)

Dimensions: 17-3/4" tall x 19" long x 8-1/2" deep (width of base at ends)
