Introducing a centennial limited edition Hibiki, celebrating one hundred years of pursuing Harmony. Hibiki 21 YO is a delicate blend of numerous malt and grain whiskies which are meticulously blended to create a full orchestra of flavours and aromas. Hibiki was launched to commemorate Suntory’s 90th Anniversary and ever since has been embraced as the paragon of Japanese Whisky. Hibiki is not only Japan’s most highly awarded blended whisky, but among the most prestigious and honoured whiskies in the world.
To celebrate the birth of Japanese whisky, Chief Blender Shinji Fukuyo and his team of blenders challenged themselves to rethink the Art of Blending for Hibiki. They were determined to use the legendary Japanese oak of Mizunara as a mark of respect to Japanese heritage. Traditionally, the sherry cask has been the enhancer of Hibiki, giving it its gorgeous appearance. For this blend, however, Shinji Fukuyo set aside the sherry cask to curate a different kind of Harmony: one led, for the first time, by Mizunara. The final blend is an exploration of how a single detail can alter the whole alchemy, reassessing and rebalancing harmony.
Tasting Notes:
Colour: Tender Gold
Nose: Refined and elegant with top notes of kumquat and jasmine, and a hint of soothing Japanese incense
Palate: Subtly sweet floral flavour and parfum as the harmony elongates to introduce spiced Japanese sandalwood and agarwood notes
Finish: Long and deep with undernotes of spiced Mizunara woodiness
