For sale is the book Instumental Precortesiano, tomo 1:Instrumentos de Percusion by Daniel Castaneda and Vicente T. Mendoza. The book was published in 1933 by Museo Nacional de Arqueologia, Historia y Etnografia, Mexico.  The book is about 7.25" x 10.5" with a soft, cardstock cover. It has a stapled binding, despite being over 1" thick. The book has 281 paginated pages, but that does not include the dozens of plate pages.  The last plate is numbered 119, but not all the plates have numbers, so I am not sure how many plates there actually are. The book is illustrated with b&w photographic plates, one color plate, and artwork in the body of the text. The book is in Spanish.

The book is in 'acceptable' condition. The pages are heavily tanned and brittle, although the plates are in quite good condition. The only marks or writing I could find were a penciled used bookstore notations on the front cover and on the title page, see images. The two stamps seem to be from the "cultural distributors" (??) The binding over the staples was glued, but that has failed, revealing the staples.  The book has heavy shelf wear, spine damage, bumped corners, worn edges, and cover creases.

I could find no other copy of this book anywhere, so have priced it accordingly, despite the condition.  It is full of many wonderful images of pre-Columbian (pre-Cortez) drums, designs, instruments, and illustrations.

We have recently had a large donation of vintage books & pamphlets relating to bells, bell-ringing, and vintage percussion instruments. About 25 listings will be appearing on eBay soon. Please look for them.

Please feel free to ask any additional questions.  Please look at my other auctions of books and music.  All proceeds from this auction benefit the Northborough (MA) Town Library.  These items were donated to the library and I volunteer all of my time to place them up on eBay.  Local residents may avoid S&H fees by paying for and picking up books at the library.  E-mail me for details.  Thank you for supporting a community library.
