    Application For

For  2004-2007 Ford Freestar All Trim Levels Front Driver Side & Passenger Side Suspension Strut Assembly
For  2004-2007 Mercury Monterey All Trim Levels Front Driver Side & Passenger Side Suspension Strut Assembly

    Symptoms of a Worn Strut
If your vehicle has racked up a lot of miles, or the miles you've gone have been rough, you might notice:

    1. Increased Bumpiness
    2. Cupped Tire Wear
    3. Increased Body Roll
    4. Dives When Braking
    5. Acceleration Squat
    6. Clunking Noise

These can all be signs that your struts or springs are beginning to wear out and needing replacement. When deciding between a bare strut replacement or a complete strut assembly (loaded strut, quick strut) there are a few issues you should consider.

How to check whether the shock absorber works well

    1. Under normal circumstances, oil leakage in the shock absorber means that there is a problem with your shock absorber. You should repair it at this time to avoid abnormal operation of the shock absorber.
    2. Press the bumper firmly, and then release it. If the car jumps 2 or 3 times, it means that the shock absorber is working well.
    3. When the car is driving slowly and braking urgently, if the car vibrates violently, it means there is a problem with the shock absorber.
    4. The car stops after driving 10km on the road with poor road conditions and touches the outer shell with your hands. If the temperature is not high enough, it means that there is no resistance inside the shock absorber and the shock absorber does not work.

At this time you should know if it is time to replace the shock absorber.

    Installion

    • Step 1.Loosen, but don't remove, the front tire's lug nuts.

    • Step 2.Jack up one side of the vehicle and place a jack stand underneath to secure it.

    • Step 3.Remove the lug nuts and wheel.

    • Step 4.Locate the stud and look for any brake lines that may be fastened to it. If there are, carefully remove the brake line and its fasteners without damaging them.

    • Step 5.Unscrew the bolts that are on the bottom of the strut connecting it to the wheel/steering components. You may need to use spray-on penetrating oil, a socket and breaker bar, and box wrench to remove stubborn bolts if they're rusted.Depending on your vehicle, there may also be a sway, anti-roll or stabilizer bar that needs to be removed.

    • Step 6.Open the hood and locate the top of the stud where it's attached to the vehicle. On many vehicles, it will appear as three bolts in a circular pattern around a center bolt. Do not remove the center bolt as the strut is compressed under high pressure and loosening the center bolt will allow it to fly loose, damaging anything in its path. Remove the three bolts surrounding the center bolt.At this point, it may be helpful to have a partner holding the strut to keep it from falling and possibly damaging other components like flexible brake lines and boots.

    • Step 7.Remove old strut assembly from the wheel well, avoiding contact with the CV axle or drive axle so you don't damage them.

    • Step 8.Install the quick strut following the manufacturer's directions.

    • Step 9.Repeat the procedure for changing struts on the vehicle's other side.

    • Step 10.Take the vehicle for a low-speed test drive. After confirming your repair, head down to your trusted repair facility for an alignment.
