The 1892-S is very rare indeed in High Grade - BU and mint state specimens are exceptionally rare. A search on eBay should reveal just how rare they are - I found none. This one is in high AU / mint state ? condition and as such is a VERY RARE coin indeed with population estimates for mint state specimens extremely low (check PCGS population numbers)

*(An 1892-S MS60 has a guide price of over $50,000 and an AU 58 is $27,000).

This one is a most beautiful rarity and excellent for upgrading your 1892-S !

The 1892-S dollar is one of those US coins that is very common in worn and circulated grades but which is an extreme rarity in Higher Grades. The explanation is that many if not most 1892-S dollars were placed into circulation at or near the time of issue, very few were saved in Mint State and these are therefore very rare indeed (and HIGHLY VALUED).

Numismatists call this a Conditional Rarity.
