DESCRIPTION

Complete as five volumes bound in four. Volumes I-IV dated 1728, Volume V dated 1729.

A brilliant collection of the works of Giovanni della Casa.

Della Casa was an Italian poet, diplomat, and author, of the sixteenth century.

This set includes his best known work, a treatise on polite behaviour first published in 1557, 'Galateo'. In the popular work, Della Casa guides one on who to behave and achieve an ordinary social life, providing a unique insight into the dress, manners, and conversation of Renaissance Italy.

Della Casa began his career as a poet, his lyrical poetry forming a new style to oppose Petrarch.

Edited by Pier Caterino Zeno.

The second edition, the first published in 1707.
