Rare Vintage Engraved Copper Henricus Hondius World Map 47"x27" Wood Mount

This engraved copper mounted world map is in very good condition. The copper engraving is beautiful. Very clean. No dents or major flaws. The wood backing is solid. No cracks or splits. One corner is chipped as shown in the photos. Two spots on the edges is missing the thin black veneer. There is a slight bow to the wood but it doesn't effect the map and it hangs nicely on the wall. Please look at all the photos and read the short description below.

Large world map from the 20th century with the image of Nova - Totius - Terrarum - Arbis - Geographica - Ac - Hydrographica - Tabula.

I believe the original map was created by Henricus Hondius in 1641. The map shows both sides of the globe. On the left there are the Americas - North, South and New Guinea. On the right side we see Europe - Asia - Africa and Australia. The sea is decorated with 17th century ships. In the foreground and around the border there are figures with text about Columbus and the navigators, etc. Also the four elements and the seasons are represented.

The plate is mounted on wood and not framed. Very heavy. A beautiful, rare piece.
