Along Came a Dog tells the story of a stray dog who befriends an injured red hen on a farm. It's a sweet children's story, perfect for new and elementary readers. This copy is a library rebind by the New Method Book Bindery, in excellent reading condition. Notably, the book is illustrated by Maurice Sendak, who was a prolific illustrator of children's books before he launched a career as a writer/illustrator with Where the Wild Things Are in 1963.

Here are the condition notes:

This is a library rebind of what appears to be the first edition; the date listed in the indicia is 1958, the date of publication of the original novel. The cover illustration also matches the first edition cover. The book is also ex library. The exterior is intact and complete and shows significant wear consistent with a children's library book -- edge rubbing, rounded corners, some crumpling at the top and base of the spine, some light soiling and discoloration. The interior has marks consistent with ex lib status. The inside front cover has the remnants of a library card sleeve, a stamp of the name of the library and a DISCONTINUED stamp. The inside front endpaper also has these stamps. The main title also has a library stamp. There is also a stamp on page 5. The interior is otherwise clean and unmarked with the exception of a few places where individual words are underlined in pencil.
