General Siegfried Westphal [1902 1982] was a prominent German Generalmajor in the Wehrmacht who served in many high-level assignments. During the opening of World War II, he served as the operations officer of the 58th Infantry Division. In 1941, he was promoted and assigned as the operations officer under General Erwin Rommel during the general's command of the Africa Korps. General Westphal then served as chief of staff under generals Kesselring and Rundstedt. He was also the recipient of the Knight's Cross and the author of the book, The German Army in the West. Listed for auction is the rare autograph of general Siegfried Westphal signed on an original war dated Africa Korps photograph. The photograph contains the image of Westphal with Erwin Rommel, and the autograph is signed ''S. Westphal in black ink. The photograph is a b/w, matte finish, measures 5.00 x 4.00 inches and in fine condition. The photograph is imprinted on the verso, Verband Deutsches Africa-Korps 1941-1942. The autograph is authentic, rare to obtain and is signed on a highly desirable original Africa Korps photograph of him with Erwin Rommell.
